Year 1 Trip to Mill Green Mill

During the Spring Term, Year 1 visited Mill Green Mill as part of their History topic on The Great Fire of London. With the sun shining, the children arrived eager and excited to showcase their impressive knowledge of this historic event.

Our wonderful guide, Serena, began the day by testing the children’s knowledge of the Great Fire of London, and she was thoroughly impressed by their intelligent answers and how much they had learnt and remembered. As the day unfolded, the children explored a working mill and even had the chance to grind wheat into flour. Next, they then dressed up as Thomas Farriner and enjoyed making bread rolls to take home.

In the afternoon, the children learnt about various artefacts from around 1666. They had great fun trying to guess the purpose of some unusual objects and eagerly took part in a hands-on archaeology activity, digging and discovering like real archaeologists.

It was a fantastic day at the mill; an enriching experience that brought history to life and gave the children a chance to extend their learning beyond the classroom.
