Today, our whole school celebrated Science Day with the exciting theme ‘Our Diverse Planet: SuperBirds’. Through a range of hands-on activities and demonstrations, children explored the fascinating world of birds. They uncovered incredible facts—from the call of the noisy white bellbird, to the strange scent of the hoatzin, and the story of the extinct dodo.
Pupils across the school created either a pecking woodpecker or a bird whistle, depending on their age and key stage. Along the way, they discovered that all birds are warm-blooded, have feathers, and lay eggs. They were also surprised to learn that not all birds can fly—penguins, for example, are expert swimmers, and ostriches can run at speeds of up to 70km per hour! What some birds lack in flight, they more than make up for on land or in water.
It was a brilliant day of curiosity, creativity, and discovery!
