Holland House School

Holland House School

Pre-Prep

The winning combination of experienced, committed staff, a carefully planned curriculum and small class sizes creates a friendly and stimulating environment within Holland House Pre-Prep. Here pupils lay down firm foundations in all areas of the curriculum, on which they can build in future years.

Children primarily join Holland House Pre-Prep in the Reception Year at age 4. We are a one form entry school with an optimum of 22 children per class. All three classes have their own teacher and we have two teaching assistants dedicated to the Pre-Prep; one in the Reception Class and the other working within Year 1 and Year 2.

Both the Reception Class and the Year 1 Class are housed on the ground floor giving both year groups direct access to outside spaces throughout the day. The Year 2 Class has a central position on the first floor of the building, in a light and airy room that gives ease of access to all school facilities.

Children come into school between 8.15am and 8.30am. The Reception Class go straight to their classroom whilst Year 1 and Year 2 go to our playground during this time, socialising with friends and mixing with children of different ages.

In the first two years at Holland House School, particular emphasis is placed on reading, writing, number work and clear self-expression.  Children are taught to acknowledge classroom discipline without sacrificing their own lively individuality.

Holland House has met all the necessary conditions to take up an exemption from the learning and development requirements of the 2012 Early Years Foundation Stage for children in its Reception and Year One classes and being an Independent School our staff are given the freedom to create a school we really believe in, with a curriculum which challenges, inspires and stretches but which also embodies the rigour which can often be found lacking in the modern age. We also make the very best use of the outstanding specialist teachers who work across the School in PE and Sport, Music, Dance and Drama, French and Computing.

We see clear evidence of the success of our educational programme. Children moving through School are self-assured and confident and their levels of skill and ability are demonstrably more advanced.
